What to Expect from being
an Allsorts Volunteer

activities

  • Helping the staff team to run the drop-in programme of activities (workshops, art projects, games, outings etc)
  • Supporting young people to take part in the drop-in activities
  • Helping the staff team to set up the drop-in and clear up afterwards
  • Helping prepare and serve meals for the young people
  • To provide support and information to the young people
  • To take part in a de-brief session after the drop-in with members of staff, and fill in the relevant monitoring forms

time commitment

Volunteers are required to attend an induction training process before they begin volunteering at drop in. This introduces volunteers to how Allsorts Youth Project works and their role as a drop in Volunteer. The training usually takes place at a venue in central Brighton, over the course of a few Tuesday evenings.

supervision/ support

New volunteers receive a supervision session after they have attended three drop-in sessions. Following this, they will meet with their supervisor (a member of staff) regularly for the first 6 months. After volunteering for 6 months, supervision takes place every nine drop-in sessions.

Supervision is an opportunity for the volunteer to reflect on their progress, raise any concerns they may have and make plans for how they would like their volunteer role to develop. Volunteers can also contact a worker any time during working hours if they have particular concerns about young people that they urgently need to discuss.

benefits

  • Travel fees to/ from drop in reimbursed
  • Free meal at the drop-in
  • Ongoing training on a range of topics.
  • Reference on request after volunteering for 15 sessions.
