Everyone deserves a prom night where they actually feel like they belong. No awkward expectations, no hiding who you are, just a night where you can be 100% yourself.
To celebrate Pride season, we’re taking over an iconic Brighton venue for a night centred entirely on LGBTQ+ young people (ages 16–21). We’re ditching the traditional "norms" and focusing on what matters: safety, inclusion, and a massive celebration of our community.
Whether you’re coming with a date, your best mates, or coming solo to meet new people, this is your space.
TEN ESSENTIAL THINGS FOR YOU TO KNOW ABOUT QUEER PROM
1. Queer Prom will be a lively, noisy event in a large venue. We are expecting between 100 and 150 people to attend. If you want to bring items such as ear defenders to make it more comfortable for you, please do. There will be a separate ‘Chill-out Room’ (a much quieter space) away from the Main Event Hall with Allsorts Staff and Volunteers running chilled-out activities (crafting, etc.) and a space to hang out and chat.
2. You don’t need a partner or a posse to come along to Queer Prom. Many young people will come as individuals (and leave with new friends!). If you feel at all nervous about attending, you’re welcome to join us at the Young People’s Centre on the day from 4:30 pm to get ready, connect with others, and walk to the event with us. Contact us at youth@allsortsyouth.org.uk if you need more information about this.
3. What to wear: Dress fabulous, whatever that means for you. Dress however you feel comfortable; there is no expectation to look any particular way. Please be mindful that this is an Allsorts event for young people (including 16-year-olds) when choosing what to wear.
4. The venue has an expensive wood floor, so they request that nobody wear very pointed, slender stilettos, spike heels, or needle-point stilettos, as this risks damaging the floor.
5. Glittery makeup is allowed, but do not bring any actual glitter (in pots, etc.) to the event, as it is in a museum and art gallery exhibition space, so we need to be careful of the exhibitions.
6. Queer Prom is a safe space for all LGBTQ+ people. We will not accept discriminatory behaviour of any kind. We reserve the right to ask people to leave if we deem their behaviour inappropriate.
7. Queer Prom is a sober space. No alcohol or substances are to be consumed before or during the event. We reserve the right to ask people to leave if we believe they have consumed alcohol or substances.
8. Drinks and snacks will be provided at the event, but not a full buffet or meal, so maybe eat beforehand. You must not bring your own food and drink into the venue (their rules)
9. Smoking or vaping is not allowed in the building, but the Pavilion Gardens are available for this.
10. At the end of the event, we will be organising groups to walk with Allsorts staff to Brighton Station and nearby bus stops.
